CAROL HAMILTON
Thursday, February 28, 2013
7:00pm - 9:00pm
GLAA Gallery
The Geneva Lake Art Association is pleased to announce that Carol Hamilton will be the featured presenter at the next GLAA Members Meeting, which will be held on Thursday evening, February 28, 2013 at 7:00 pm in the GLAA Gallery located at 647 Main Street in Lake Geneva. Carol has taught art for nearly twenty years and currently has a studio in the Starline Factory Gallery and Studios in Harvard, IL, where she also teaches encaustic workshops.
“Working with beeswax and pigments evolved out of my love of process and materials and the natural world. I have lived most of my adult life in Wyoming and the desert of Arizona and the landscape became an integral part of my daily life. I learned to the love the austere beauty of the high altitude prairie, and the minimalist gorgeousness of the Sonoran desert. Because I have always been fascinated with stones and sticks, wire and mesh and cast-off scraps of rusted metal found while hiking and driving, they lure me with their patterns and textures.”
“My process involves more than beeswax and pigments; it is equally the product of looking, reading, researching, sketching and “dreaming”, the pieces into being. The choice of materials and subject matter both come from a fascination with the natural world, the things too often overlooked in our busy, day-to-day routines. A scrap of paper, a broken twig, a smooth stone or the reflections of the sun in a mud puddle each can be the jumping off point for a piece of work, yet the work itself is not a portrait of that visual event--it is an expression of the bare, reduced essence of a memory enshrined in the ever-changing now.”
